Ultrasound scans at Echopraktijk Zuid
Ultrasound scans are performed with a ALOKA Alpha 7. This apparatus meets the requirements entirely. There is a large LCD-monitor to make it easy for you to watch the scan being performed.
Echography uses ultrasound waves, which can not be perceived by the human ear. No damaging side effects have been established scientifically in the past 40 years.

In the egg of pregnancy an ultrasound scan is made to establish the exact time of birth.
At this so-called periodical ultrasound scan the fetus is measured from head to tail bone and we can see if there is a heartbeat and whether you carry twins.

NT-combination test (Nucal Translucency)
To determine the risk of getting a child with Down's syndrom.
The NT-combination test consists of two parts: an external scan of the thickness of the fetus’ neck fold and a blood sample of the expecting mother is taken. In her blood two substances are determined that might indicate Down’s syndrome in the fetus at that moment. This is INDEPENDENT of the mother’s age.

Blood samples
Blood samples are taken at Echopraktijk Zuid and determined at the VU laboratory. An experienced assistance is present to take blood samples.
We have close consultation with the VU for follow-up of neck fold measuring and structural 20-week scan and if further examination is required it will take place at the VU shortly.

You will be telephoned by the echographist about the result of the cimbined test. As a matter of course you will then be able to ask any questions you might have.

SEO is short for "Structureel Echoscopisch Onderzoek". This ultrasound scan is performed when you are 20 weeks pregnant. This ultrasound checks only the VISIBLE structures of the unborn child as not everything can be seen or detected at that time of pregnancy.
Although most babies are normal, all women - whatever their age - have a small chance of delivering a baby with a physical malformation.
What will you receive?
You will receive an official result on paper to give to your midwife or doctor.
Of course you will also receive one or two photographs from us.

After 30 weeks of pregnancy the same measures are taken as at 20 weeks.
These measures can be compared and the growth of your child established. So if growth falls behind this can be noted in time.

Specific ultrasound scan
Your midwife might request for a specific ultrasound scan with a certain objective.
For example when breech presentation is suspected or when the placenta is embedded very low in your womb.

If you are trying to get pregnant and if you have you had any fertility examination abroad it is possible to have your ultrasound scan at our echography practice.
These are ultrasound scans with, for instance, follicle or endometrium measuring. These scans are performed by an experienced gynaecologist. You will receive written documents to hand in at your doctor in attendance.

Scan on request
This scan on request is meant for those women who wish to have another look after their structural scan at 20 weeks of pregnancy. It can also be used for sex determination of course. Please notify us of your wishes when making an appointment.
